Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Farm Retirement Scheme.

John Perry

Question:

224 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason farm retirement pension has been reduced for a person (details supplied) in County Sligo; if full retirement pension will be granted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11948/02]

The person named entered the early retirement scheme on 31 August 1994 and was paid a pension based on an area of land released by her totalling 20.821 hectares. The person named subsequently notified my Department of her intention to transfer a site measuring 0.28 hectares to her daughter. My Department advised her that it had no objection to this proposal but that it would result in a reduction in her pension retrospective to the date of her entry to the scheme. The person named subsequently completed the transfer of the site to her daughter, as a consequence of which her pension must be reduced by €84.53 per annum retrospective to her entry to the scheme. The reduction in the pension and recovery of the amounts overpaid will commence in May 2002.

The fact that there was no payment to the person named for the transfer of the site does not materially affect the position. The important issue is that the area of land on which payment under the scheme had been determined was reduced.
