Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Board Allowances.

Willie Penrose

Question:

320 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children if an application by a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon to the Midlands Health Board for grant aid for installation of a downstairs toilet has been considered; if the application has been approved; and when a response in this matter will be made to the person. [11330/02]

As I am sure the Deputy is aware, the Department of the Environment and Local Government, through the relevant local authority, provides grant assistance to people with physical and sensory disabilities by means of the disabled persons grant for the purpose of meeting the accessibility needs of this client group within their homes.

However, on the basis of information provided by the Deputy, my Department has contacted both the Midland Health Board and the Western Health Board and I understand that the application to which the Deputy referred, was in fact made to the Longford County Council. I understand that the processing of this application is at an advanced stage and I suggest that the Deputy should contact Longford County Council concerning further information on this application.
