Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Pat Carey

Question:

378 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children if there has been an increase in the level of payments which colostomy patients have been asked to make for equipment after the operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11737/02]

Under the drugs payment scheme, no individual or family unit pays more than €53.33 towards approved prescribed drugs, medicines and appliances such as ostomy appliances. Medical card holders are entitled to receive these appliances free of charge.

I understand the average monthly outlay by an individual on ostomy appliances would be in excess of the €53.33 threshold and that therefore any increase in the price of approved appliances would be paid for by the State.
