Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drug Treatment Services.

Tony Gregory

Question:

396 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department can provide financial assistance to a drug rehabilitation project (details supplied) in Dublin 1. [11911/02]

Prioritising and provision of funding for drug misuse services is the responsibility of health boards. Under Action 48 of the national drugs strategy that was published by the Taoiseach last May, health boards must have in place a range of treatment and rehabilitation options. Action 61 of the strategy also requires that health boards consider developing drop-in centres, respite and half-way houses for drug misusers.

Additional funding of €3.05 million has recently been approved for treatment and rehabilitation and other drug services in the Eastern region. In light of this funding the three boards in the eastern region will be prioritising proposals to make the best use of these resources. The proposal referred to by the Deputy will be one of the proposals considered by the health boards in the context of this prioritising process.
