Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Tony Gregory

Question:

606 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation further to Parliamentary Question No. 1038 of 30 January 2002, his views on the concerns raised in correspondence (details supplied) and specifically that the grant referred to was used to facilitate the construction of an unauthorised structure and does not appear to have been used for the purpose for which it is applied; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11346/02]

Further to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 1038 of January 2002, I wish to point out that the grants in question which were awarded under the sports capital programme were paid to the club following compliance by the club with the conditions which apply to such grants and the submission to the Department of the necessary documentation under the terms and conditions of the scheme. This documentation included planning permission covering the spec tator stand and incorporated the facilities underneath.

I have now asked my Department to examine the matters raised in the correspondence between the Deputy and the club in question.

Seán Haughey

Question:

607 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if the £70,000 previously allocated to a group (details supplied) in Dublin 3 is still available to them under the sports capital programme in addition to the 2002 allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11422/02]

Marino and District Community Centre Limited was provisionally allocated £70,000, €88,882, for repairs to its community hall under my Department's sports capital programme in 2000. Following the receipt of professional advice and consultation with Dublin City Council, the organisation in question decided to pursue a complete rebuilding of the community centre as they were advised that a repairs programme would be wasteful expenditure. The organisation accordingly sought an extension of the time frame for the drawdown of the grant and the Department acceded to this request.

Under the 2002 sports capital programme, Marino and District Community Centre Limited made an application for funding towards the proposed new community hall and a further €300,000 has been provisionally allocated towards their revised proposal. The organisation in question will shortly receive a letter from my Department explaining the conditions which apply to the grant allocation. One of the conditions will refer to a time limit within which the work of the project will have to be completed and the funds drawn down.

Question No. 608 answered with Question No. 601.
