Michael Ring

Question:

643 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will sanction the necessary funding to provide one-to-one tuition to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [11121/02]

My Department allocates resources to second level schools to cater for special needs pupils. Applications for such support are made to my Department by the relevant school authorities. Each case is considered on its merits and determined on the advice of the psychological service.

My Department recently received an application from the school authority concerned for extra resources in respect of the pupil referred to by the Deputy. This application has been referred to the psychological service for a report and, as soon as the report has been received and considered, my Department will notify the school authority of the decision.

Questions Nos. 644 to 655, inclusive answered with Question No. 642.
