Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Billy Timmins

Question:

720 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the extension for Moneystown national school, Moneystown Roundwood, Bray, County Wicklow; if sanction can be given as a matter of urgency for the next stage in the planning process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11440/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates the Government's commitment to improving accommodation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997. Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since the Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity. A building project at Moneystown national school, Moneystown, Roundwood, County Wicklow, is currently in architectural planning as part of the Government's programme. The project will continue to the preparation of tender documents and the invitation of tenders, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

721 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of an extension to the staff room at Causeway comprehensive school, Causeway, Tralee, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11441/02]

An application from the school in question is being examined in the planning section of my Department with a view to determining the long-term projected enrolments for the school. My Department will contact County Kerry VEC as soon as this examination is completed.
