Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Creed

Question:

731 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the situation regarding the provision of a new national school at a location (details supplied) in County Cork; and if a commitment in respect of this school was given by his Department in 1985. [11476/02]

An application for a new school on a new site has recently been received in my Department from the school referred to by the Deputy. This application is currently being examined in the planning and building unit of my Department in conjunction with a report from the district inspector. A submission by the board of management regarding the inadequacies of the existing building and site and relevant health and safety issues is also being considered. As part of my Department's examination, the school's current and projected enrolments are being considered in the context of enrolment and demographic trends in the general area. A decision on the school's long-term accommodation requirements will be taken and notified to the school authorities as soon as possible.
