825 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science if money has been made available to allow the school committee of Barnaderg national school, Tuam, County Galway, to seek tenders for the refurbishment of the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11990/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving accommodation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997. Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

A building project at Barnaderg national school, Tuam, County Galway is currently in architectural planning as part of the Government's programme. The project will continue to the preparation of tender documents and the invitation of tenders, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme.

826 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will sanction the seeking of tenders for the provision of a new school for Rathmore national school, Rathmore, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11991/02]

827 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will sanction the required refurbishment works and extension to the Salesian College, Celbridge, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11992/02]

The school authorities of the Salesian College, Celbridge, County Kildare, have submitted an application for refurbishment works and possible extra accommodation and this is currently being examined within my Department.

The school's accommodation requirements are being examined in the light of its long-term enrolment figure.

828 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if officials of his Department have concluded their examination of the proposals to move St. Patrick's post-primary school, Naas, County Kildare to a new site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11993/02]

A proposal submitted by the chief executive officer of County Kildare VEC to relocate the St. Patrick's Community College to a new site, including the possible sale of the existing school is being considered by my Department's post-primary building and administration units.

All possible options are being considered by my Department. To progress this matter further a number of issues must be resolved.

A letter has issued to County Kildare VEC requesting clarification on a number of issues. A response is awaited. On receipt of a response, this matter will receive further attention.

834 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if the Office of Public Works have been successful in purchasing a site for a new national school in Kill, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11999/02]

The property management section of the Office of Public Works is acting on behalf of my Department in relation to site acquisitions generally and is exploring the possibility of acquiring a site for Kill national school, County Kildare.

The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.

836 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science the position concerning a new school at Malahide community school grounds; when a decision will be made as to the nature of new accommodation which will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12010/02]

My Department recently received an addendum to the design team procedures stage 1-2 submission, that is, site suitability, site report and outline sketch scheme, for the redevelopment of Malahide community school. Officials in the building unit of my Department are examining this report and a response will issue as soon as possible to the design team and the school board of management.

My Department is committed to providing a design solution for Malahide community school that will provide a school building, which is viable from an educational, architectural and economic point of view.
