845 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the extra facilities required at Scoil Ignad Ris, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12089/02]

The stage 2, outline sketch scheme, in respect of the proposed extension to Meánscoil Iognáid Ris has been examined within my Department's post-primary building unit. A number of queries were raised and brought to the attention of the school authorities. A response has been received in this regard in my Department's post-primary building unit.

However, the overall post-primary school provision in the Naas area is currently under review by my Department's planning section and the building unit must await the outcome of this review before further progress can be made.

846 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of extra facilities required at Tiermohan national school, Tiermohan, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12090/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving accommodation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

A proposed building project for Tiermohan national school will proceed to architectural planning and to the preparation of tender documents, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme.

847 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress regarding the provision of the extra facilities required at Scoil Clochar Coca Naofa, Kilcock, County Kildare; if and when attention is likely to be given to the improved safety features, the need for which has already been identified; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving accommodation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.
Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

848 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the state of negotiation and preparation in regard to the provision of new or alternative facilities in respect of St. Patrick's post-primary school, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12092/02]

A proposal submitted by the chief executive officer of County Kildare VEC to relocate St. Patrick's Community College to a new site, including the possible sale of the existing school is currently being considered by my Department's post-primary and administration units. All possible options are being considered by my Department. In order to progress this matter further a number of issues must be resolved.

A letter has issued to County Kildare VEC requesting clarification on a number of issues. A response is currently awaited. Upon receipt of a response, this matter will receive further attention.

849 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the promised extension of facilities at Maynooth post-primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare; when he expects the outstanding queries raised by his Department with the architects are likely to be resolved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The stage 3, developed sketch scheme, has been examined within my Department's post-primary building unit.

A number of queries have arisen and these have been brought to the attention of the chief executive officer of County Kildare VEC for evaluation and a response from his design team. The Deputy will, therefore, appreciate that it is not possible for me to indicate when these issues will be resolved.

850 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding facilities required at the Salesian College, Celbridge, County Kildare; his future plans in regard to such requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12094/02]

The school authorities of the Salesian College, Celbridge, County Kildare have submitted an application for refurbishment works and possible extra accommodation and this is currently being examined within my Department.

The school's accommodation requirements are being examined in the light of its long-term enrolment figure.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I recently authorised the placing of a contract to enable the progression of works at North Kildare school project.

855 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of new school facilities at Kill, County Kildare; the extent to which negotiations have concluded in regard to such matters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12099/02]

The property management section of the Office of Public Works is acting on behalf of my Department in relation to site acquisitions generally and is currently exploring the possibility of acquiring a site for Kill national school, County Kildare.

The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.

857 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the application from the board of management of Loreto College, Balbriggan, County Dublin for a permanent extension to its school. [12101/02]

My Department recently advised the school authority to put in place a full design team, that is a suitably qualified architect, quantity surveyor, structural engineer and mechanical and electrical engineer, for the proposed extension to Loreto secondary school. The process of architectural planning will commence once the design team is appointed.

858 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he proposes to accept the recommendations of the board of management of Malahide Community School, County Dublin, in respect of proposals for a new school; and the progress in respect of same. [12102/02]

My Department recently received an addendum to the Stage 1/2, site suitability, site report and outline sketch scheme, for the re-development of Malahide Community School. Officials in the building unit of my Department are currently examining this report and a response will issue as soon as possible to the design team and the school board of management.

My Department is committed to providing a design solution for Malahide Community School that will provide a school building, which is viable from an educational, architectural and economic point of view.

859 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the progress in respect of the application from the board of management of Pope John Paul II national school, Malahide, County Dublin, for a much needed extension to their school. [12103/02]
