Vol. 552 No. 2

Written Answers. - Agriculture Appeals Office.

Derek McDowell

Question:

26 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if the independent agriculture appeals office has been established; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11904/02]

The legislative framework providing for the establishment of an independent agriculture appeals office was enacted in July 2001. Planning on the necessary staffing and accommodation is well advanced. The office will be located in Portlaoise. An interdepartmental competition for the appointment of the director of the office was advertised in February 2002 and the selection process is nearing completion. The selection process for the appeals officers has been initiated and the recruitment of the remaining staff will commence shortly thereafter.
