Vol. 552 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

57 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a suckler cow grant for 2001 will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12174/02]

The person named applied for premium for 20 animals under the 2001 suckler cow premium scheme. An advance payment issued on 17 December 2001 for 16 animals as at that time four animal tag numbers were under query. In processing the application for balance payment, it was found that the four animals were disposed of inside the six months retention period and only one animal was replaced in accordance with the terms and conditions of the scheme. The herd owner was informed on the 22 March 2002 that three animals were being rejected from the application and a reduction penalty would be applied to the remaining eligible animals. On this basis, the full entitlement due is less than the amount of the advance already paid resulting in an overpayment. The person named has been informed that he can appeal his case by contacting the headage and premia appeals unit of my Department.
