Vol. 552 No. 3

Written Answers. - Motor Vehicle Regulations.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

147 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he intends to review the legal requirement weight of 33,000 kgs for four-axle trucks in view of the apparent non-enforcement of this weight restriction; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12471/02]

The maximum permitted weight in Ireland for any four-axle vehicle is 32,000 kilograms. This limit conforms to EU requirements as set out in Directive 96/53/EC on the maximum authorised dimensions of vehicles in national and international traffic. Enforcement of the regulations in question is a matter for the Garda.
