Question:

149 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when approval for tender for the new fire station for Callan, County Kilkenny will issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12473/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 148 and 149 together.

Under the fire services capital programme for 2002, which I announced on 8 March last, Kilkenny County Council's proposal for a new fire station at Callan is to be progressed to construction stage this year. Approval has now issued to the council to seek tenders for this project. An application submitted by the council on 12 December 2001 for approval in principle for a new fire station at Castlecomer is under consideration in my Department and a decision will issue in due course.
