Vol. 552 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

51 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance his proposals to change the regulations to expand the scope of the disabled drivers scheme. [12421/02]

A review of the disabled drivers and disabled passengers tax concessions scheme is ongoing. The interdepartmental review group is chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. Officials from the Departments of Health and Children and Social, Community and Family Affairs, the Revenue Commissioners and my Department are also represented on the group. The group is examining all aspects of the scheme, including the qualifying medical criteria. Any proposals – whether to widen the scope of the scheme or otherwise – which may emanate from the review group will receive full consideration.
