Vol. 552 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Appointments.

Willie Penrose

Question:

127 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who has applied for a transfer will be facilitated with same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12724/02]

In accordance with formal procedures agreed between the Civil and Public Service Union, which represents clerical officers, and the Department of Finance, the names of officers applying for transfer to a provincial location are entered on my Department's transfer lists in the order in which they are received. Vacancies which arise in provincial locations and which can be filled by transfer are then filled by reference to these lists.

The clerical officer in question accepted an offer of appointment made by the Office of the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissioners for a permanent position in the Dublin offices of my Department and took up the appointment in September 2000. She applied for transfer to Longford on 9 August 2001 and for transfer to Athlone on 2 October 2001 and her name is noted on the both lists since that date.

There is quite a number of people ahead of this staff member on both the Longford and Athlone transfer lists. In accordance with the agreed arrangements, these persons would have to be considered for transfer first in the event of a vacancy arising in either the Longford or Athlone offices of this Department.
