Vol. 552 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

135 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the amount of funding to projects paid out to date under the RAPID programme, particularly in respect of the areas designated in the west Tallaght area, Dublin 24; the funds which have already been paid out; the projects in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12750/02]

The area implementation plans for the three designated RAPID areas in Tallaght were submitted to the national co-ordinator at Area Development Management Limited on 1 March 2002. After examination of the plans, the various projects contained therein were disseminated to the appropriate Departments and agencies for implementation on 12 March. It is now a matter for each Government Department and State agency to proceed with the implementation of the plans in the context of the frontloading of the NDP moneys allocated to each Department and agency.

While no funds have been paid out to date from my Department in respect of any projects contained in the plans, the Deputy should note that funding in excess of €3 million has been allocated, under the 2002 sports capital programme, to 18 projects in the Tallaght area. The Deputy will be aware that the appraisal process for the programme is weighted in favour of areas of disadvantage, including RAPID areas. A number of projects in the plans may also qualify for funding under round II of the young people's facilities and services fund, which will be announced later this year.
