Question:

153 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science his proposals to provide a full time remedial teacher for Fossa national school, Killarney, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12654/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 150 and 153 together.

My Department is currently considering an application for resource teaching support for the pupil referred to by the Deputy. This process will be completed shortly and my officials will then be in contact with the school authorities in relation to the matter.

The school in question is currently in receipt of the services of a learning support teacher on a shared basis. The case made on behalf of the school for the provision of a full-time learning support teacher has been noted. I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school will be taken fully into account in the event of additional learning support teacher posts becoming available for distribution.
