181 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science if allegations of sexual abuse were investigated by his Department in a case (details supplied) in County Galway; if a file was prepared in his Department on the matter; if a conclusion was determined in the case concerned; if action was taken in this regard; if his Department consider the matter to be closed; if so, the reason therefor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is not aware of allegations of sexual abuse being made in the case of the school referred to by the Deputy. My Department is, however, aware that complaints have been made in relation to an alleged physical assault. These complaints are being investigated by the Garda. Pending the outcome of the investigations, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further at this time.
