Vol. 552 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Service Infrastructure.

Willie Penrose

Question:

92 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children the work which has been carried out to date by the project team appointed to undertake an option appraisal for a health infrastructure in Athlone, County Westmeath; the timescale involved in relation to the project brief; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12621/02]

A project team was approved by my Department in 2000 to examine the provision of a health service infrastructure in Athlone. Much work has been done by the project team on the preparation of a brief for the project.

My Department has also approved the appointment of an architect to undertake an option appraisal of the project team's draft proposals. As the option appraisal will inform the finalisation of the design brief, it is premature, at this stage, to give a definite timescale for its completion.
