Vol. 552 No. 4

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

99 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he is taking to help the Ballinasloe advocates group concerning the list of items they discussed with him at their meeting on 28 February 2002 in Ballinasloe; if he will provide emergency funding for high support adult day centre, respite care for children, and respite and crisis intervention services; if he will provide extra funding for TOPE, the social and vocational training scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12743/02]

Additional funding amounting to €2.119 million was provided to the Western Health Board in 2002 to provide a range of services including residential, respite and day services for persons with an intellectual disability and those with autism. Decisions in relation to the precise details of the services to be provided from any additional funding and the individuals who will benefit from those services are a matter for the relevant health boards, in this case the Western Health Board. My Department is discussing the matters raised with the board to determine what, if any, assistance can be given.
