Vol. 553 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Seán Ryan

Question:

119 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Transport the reasons for the delay in his Department in issuing a licence to Dublin Bus in relation to the proposed merger of the 102 and 230 bus routes by Dublin Bus; and when Dublin Bus is likely to be awarded the licence to operate this service. [13934/02]

A notification was received from Dublin Bus on 10 April 2002, as required by a direction issued under the Transport (Re-organisation of Coras Iompair Eireann) Act, 1986, advising of the proposed introduction of a new service route 102. This new service arises from the amalgamation of routes 230 and 102. Dublin Bus was advised by my Department that the new route conflicted with an existing licensed service provided by a private operator in respect of some Sunday morning services. A copy of this licence was forwarded to Dublin Bus and they were asked to consider minor amendments to the timetable for the new service to take account of the existing licensed service. A response is still awaited from Dublin Bus. On receipt of this revised timetable a decision will be given to Dublin Bus on its proposed new route.
