Vol. 553 No. 4

Written Answers. - Strategy Statements.

John Bruton

Question:

26 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has reviewed the strategy statement for his Department for 2001-04 prepared for the previous Government; and if he proposes to make alterations to it in view of his own personal priorities or the contents of the new programme for Government. [14041/02]

Under the Public Service Management Act, 1997, each Department and office is required to produce a new statement of strategy every three years or "within 6 months after the appointment of a new Minister of the Government having charge of the Department or scheduled Office". My Department is, therefore, legally required to put a new statement of strategy in place by 6 December this year.

Work has already begun to meet this legal requirement. This work will take account of recent changes in the functions of the Department, the new Programme for Government and other changes to the external and internal environment.
