Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

232 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the provision of radiotherapy services in the Munster area, especially in Limerick and Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15284/02]

The work of the expert group on the development of radiotherapy services is at an advanced stage. The provision of additional services for radiotherapy treatment will be considered in the context of the report of the expert group. I have been advised that all health boards, including the Mid-Western and South Eastern Health Boards, have been afforded the opportunity to meet with and make submissions to the group. Because of the importance and the complexity of the work, it is not possible to give an exact date for the report of the expert group but it is anticipated that its work will be completed in the near future.
