Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Finian McGrath

Question:

233 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on whether it is acceptable for a health board to refuse ?600 expenses to the family of a disabled child while the Department of Education and Science has spent ?2,245,917 in legal fees against children with disabilities. [15285/02]

The reimbursement of expenses incurred for health reasons is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards. In addition, the chief executive officers may provide financial assistance to individuals in exceptional circumstances. As the Deputy has provided no details in this instance, I am not in a position to ask the chief executive officer of the Midland Health Board to investigate the issue, but I suggest that the individual concerned should contact the board in this regard.
