Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Security of the Elderly.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

298 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if her Department will make arrangements for a reliable organisation to effectively operate a scheme (details supplied) and liaise with the Garda in Dublin 9 and 11; the steps she intends taking to address the serious lack of scheme in the area in the event of a community organisation failing to apply in 2002; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15232/02]

Since the commencement of the scheme of community support for older people, a total of €32.5 million has been allocated to the scheme, which to the end of 2001 has assisted some 89,136 individuals. Some €4.4 million has been provided for the scheme in 2002. The 2002 scheme of grants will be advertised in the provincial papers in the week commencing 26 June 2002, and in the daily papers on the 27 June 2002.

Staff in the Dublin north regional office of my Department are currently liaising with groups in the Dublin 9 and Dublin 11 areas who have indicated that they are interested in applying for funding under the scheme in 2002. I have asked this office to contact the Deputy in relation to the local organisations involved.

Question No. 299 answered with Question No. 291.
