87 Dr. Upton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the steps she has taken to encourage members of staff in her Department to cycle to work; if her Department provides showering facilities; if her Department will supply cycle helmets to ensure safe cycling; and if she will make a statement on the matter. In an effort to encourage staff to cycle to work, my Department provides good quality secure bicycle parking and modern shower facilities in each of its buildings. I consider the safety of cyclists and the wearing of cycle helmets to be a matter for each individual and I do not, nor do I intend to, supply cycle helmets to staff who cycle to work.
