Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Mary Upton

Question:

87 Dr. Upton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the steps she has taken to encourage members of staff in her Department to cycle to work; if her Department provides showering facilities; if her Department will supply cycle helmets to ensure safe cycling; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15250/02]

In an effort to encourage staff to cycle to work, my Department provides good quality secure bicycle parking and modern shower facilities in each of its buildings. I consider the safety of cyclists and the wearing of cycle helmets to be a matter for each individual and I do not, nor do I intend to, supply cycle helmets to staff who cycle to work.
