344 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the individual non-governmental organisations funded or grant-aided under the various schemes run by his Department; the amount provided; and the purpose for which it was provided, in the last full year for which information is available. Note:

Each of these payments is an annual nominal grant to farming and rural based organisations to assist them in providing their services to agricultural and rural communities throughout Ireland.

Grants issued to organisations involved in the delivery of animal care and welfare services throughout the country totalled €650,741 to 52 organisations in 2001. The organisations concerned had approached the Department of Agriculture and Food during each of the years in question seeking financial assistance.
