A planning and briefing meeting was held on 26 June 2002 for the school to which the Deputy refers.

My Department allocates resource teaching posts, special needs assistant posts and additional teaching hours to second level schools to cater for special needs pupils. In the case of pupils attending vocational schools, the relevant vocational educational committee makes application for such support to my Department. Each case is considered on its merits and determined on the advice of the psychological service.
An application has been made to my Department by the VEC concerned for the allocation of additional teaching hours to meet the needs of the pupil in question. This application has been referred to the psychological service for a report. When the report has been received and considered, my Department will communicate the decision to the VEC.
