Vol. 555 No. 1

Written Answers. - Traffic Management.

Bernard Allen

Question:

260 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if regional traffic management grants are available directly to individual local authorities; and if so, the local authorities which have applied for a grant under the scheme. [17645/02]

Regional traffic management grants for non-national roads were first introduced by my Department in 2000. These grants are available to the city councils of Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford. A total of €5.344 million has been provided under this grant category to date, including the 2002 allocation of €2.094 million. My Department sought applications under the 2003 regional traffic management grants scheme on 24 September 2002. Applications from local authorities were due to be submitted to my Department by 9 October 2002.
