280 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if health considerations must be taken into account by local authorities when considering planning applications for mobile phone masts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17668/02]

In accordance with guidelines for planning authorities on telecommunications antennae and support structures, issued by my Department in July 1996, health aspects of masts and base stations are dealt with by requiring operators, as part of their planning application, to furnish to the planning authority a statement of compliance with the International Radiation Protection Association guidelines.
