290 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his proposals to legislate for compulsory undergrounding of cables which are highly intrusive on the landscape in urban and rural areas. [17678/02]

298 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his proposals to introduce legislation or regulations to require all utility and telecom providers to place all new cabling underground; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17688/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 290 and 298 together.

There are no proposals for mandatory undergrounding of new cabling or of cables generally.
