Vol. 555 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with two different topics. I propose to deal with these topics separately and I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I have received notice from Deputy Naughten on the first topic and I call on him to state the matter.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following matter of urgent national importance: the lack of funding provided to the National Roads Authority to immediately address 109 fatal sections of our national roads and the need to establish a road accident investigation unit independent of the NRA.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

In regard to the second topic, I have received notice from Deputy Joe Higgins and Deputy Boyle.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following matter of crucial public importance: the decision by the Supreme Court that procedures which allow a spouse to get an interim barring order in the District Court are unconstitutional; the immediate implications of this judgment for the safety of spouses who have suffered violence in the home; and the need to bring forward new constitutional legislation without delay to give protection to all those who are in danger of violence in the home.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the implications of the Supreme Court decision declaring interim barring orders unconstitutional and the effect this decision is having in creating a sense of public disquiet.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance Standing Order 31.
