Vol. 555 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jack Wall

Question:

365 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position of a new sewerage scheme for Castledermot, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17784/02]

Kildare County Council's tender recommendation in respect of the sewage treatment works was approved by my Department in July 2001. The construction of this element of the scheme is under way.

Contract documents for an archaeological survey of the proposed sewer network were approved in January. The submission of the related tender recommendation by the council is awaited by my Department.

Question:

366 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position of a new sewerage scheme for Newtown, Rathangan, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17785/02]

The Rathangan sewerage scheme was included, as a 2005 objective, on the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kildare County Council. This was in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments.

The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the current phase of the water services investment programme 2002-04, announced in April. Due to the level of competing demand and the need to prioritise proposals on a national basis, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme.

Question:

367 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position of a proposed new sewerage scheme for Ticknevin, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17786/02]

My Department requested local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. This scheme was not included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kildare County Council.

The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2002-04, announced in April. It has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme given the absence of any prioritised proposal for Ticknevin.
