Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Deasy – the need to provide financial assistance to allow Waterford County Council to purchase the Villiers Stuart papers; (2) Deputy Deenihan – the unacceptable four year waiting list for orthodontic treatment for Kerry patients, and the urgent need for both the Minister and the Southern Health Board to take immediate action; (3) Deputy Hogan – the need for Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to intervene to assist two textile firms, Comerama located at Castlecomer, County Kilkenny and Bunbeg, County Donegal, to overcome their trading and employment difficulties; (4) Deputy O'Sullivan – the need for the Minister for Health and Children to allocate funding to health boards and the ERHA so that medical card holders in private nursing homes can be provided with free incontinence wear to which they are legally entitled; (5) Deputy McGuinness – the urgent need to give Government assistance to north Kilkenny to develop alternative jobs, given the difficulties being experienced by Comer International; (6) Deputy Rabbitte – the increase in the number of violent incidents, including the recent spate of knife attacks which have resulted in a number of deaths and the need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to outline what steps the Garda Síochána intends to take to deal with such violence; (7) Deputy Boyle – that the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment inform the House of the immediate future of Irish Fertilizer Industries in the light of today's Guardian newspaper report on the announcement being made by today's meeting of the board of Irish Fertilizer Industries; and (8) Deputy Andrews – whether the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment is of the view that the Director of Corporate Enforcement has the power to investigate the ownership of companies incorporated outside the State which carry on business within the State, and whether such powers are discretionary.

The matters raised by Deputies Hogan, McGuinness, Boyle and Rabbitte have been selected for discussion.
