Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - School Staffing.

Mary Upton

Question:

232 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will attend to matters for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [18290/02]

The primary school referred to by the Deputy currently has the services of a shared full time learning support teacher.

I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school in question will be taken fully into account in the event of additional learning support teachers becoming available for distribution.

In connection with the accommodation requirements of the post-primary school referred to by the Deputy, I wish to confirm that my Department's building unit has received an application for extra permanent accommodation.

My Department's planning section has been requested to project long-term enrolment trends to establish any shortfall in accommodation.

In the meantime, my Department's post-primary building unit offered the school authority grant aid towards the cost of prefabricated accommodation to ameliorate the short-term accommodation requirements. However, this offer was declined. My Department's building unit will establish the accommodation requirements of this school as soon as possible.
