Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Maternity Services.

John McGuinness

Question:

293 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the South-Eastern Health Board suddenly cut the travel expenses paid to midwives attending women in the area; if in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny the expense payment will be restored so that they can avail of the services of a person (details supplied); if a full response has been issued to them on foot of their letter of 22 August 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18086/02]

The provision of maternity services to eligible persons in County Kilkenny is the statutory responsibility of the South-Eastern Health Board. However, in regard to the person to which the Deputy refers, my Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case. Upon receipt of this information a full response will issue to the correspondence of 22 August 2002 and this information will also be forwarded to the Deputy.
