Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Services for People with Disabilities.

John Deasy

Question:

309 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children if a placement for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford will be provided as a matter of urgency; if he will consider providing funding for the Spring Garden workshop, Waterford, under the new development funding for 2003 which would allow it to provide a place for the person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18168/02]

Any additional revenue funding made available to my Department for services to persons with an intellectual disability or autism is allocated to the health boards and the Eastern Regional Health Authority in their annual letter of determination. Decisions in relation to the precise services to be provided from this funding are a matter for the individual health boards, taking account of any guidelines which my Department may issue and in line with the priorities which have been identified for the region by the regional consultative and development committees. As the Estimates discussions in relation to 2003 are still under way, I am not currently in a position to comment on any specific plans for the health services in that year. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply to him directly.

Question No. 310 answered with Question No. 287.
