Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Mental Health Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

334 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to any cutbacks affecting services in St. Raphael's, Celbridge, County Kildare and St. John of God's, Islandbridge, Dublin 8; if extra funds will be allocated to these services in the forthcoming six months; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18390/02]

Responsibility for the provision of funding for organisations providing services for persons with an intellectual disability or autism in the Dublin region is a matter in the first instance for the Eastern Regional Health Authority. These would include Menni Services, Islandbridge and St. Raphael's, Celbridge, which are among a wide range of services in the fields of mental health and intellectual disability provided by the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God and commissioned by the authority.

The authority has assured my Department that it will meet its obligation under its service plan to maintain services at 2001 levels. All additional funding available to my Department for services to persons with an intellectual disability or autism has been allocated to the authority and the health boards. Additional revenue funding amounting to €10.792 million was provided in 2002 to the authority to further develop residential, respite, day and other support services for persons with an intellectual disability or autism.
