Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Electronic Voting.

Michael Ring

Question:

381 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the locations which are to be used for electronic voting for the forthcoming referendum; the cost of the equipment; the exact locations where electronic voting is to be used; the use the equipment is put to when it is not being used between elections; the locations at which it is stored; and the storage cost of same. [17897/02]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 27, 51 and 383 of 10 October 2002. In relation to the numbers and storage of voting machines, approximately 1,000 machines will be in use in the seven constituencies at the forthcoming referendum at a cost of approximately €5.86 million, excluding VAT, including publicity and training. Storage of the equipment, which is dedicated solely for use at elections, is a matter for the appropriate returning officer. Some of the machines have only been received lately and storage costs are not yet available in the Department.
