Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Grant Payments.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

410 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs when he intends to approve an application by South East Galway CDP for funding so that staff can be recruited and other plans proceeded with; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18289/02]

As a result of the pro-active targeting exercise undertaken by the Department of Social and Family Affairs, the Portumna area of County Galway was identified as a priority area for inclusion in the community development support programmes.

The regional support agency with responsibility for the west, West Training and Development Limited, undertook the necessary pre-development work and set up a management committee representative of the target groups in the area. They facilitated the management committee in drawing up a three year workplan which has been submitted to my Department. This workplan is currently under consideration. Officials from my Department will be in contact with the project to inform them of the outcome of their application.
