Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Revised Estimates.

Richard Bruton

Question:

179 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the amount of money that remains available to his Department from the voted spending allocation agreed in the Revised Estimates 2002 to spend in the last quarter of 2002 for capital spending and for current spending; and the way in which this compares to the amount spent for current and for capital purposes in the last quarter of 2001. [18409/02]

The balances available under the current year's Revised Estimate for the period October to December 2002 are as follows:

Current

€325.721 million.

Capital

€58.574 million.

Total

€384.295 million.

The amounts spent in the same quarter in 2001 are as follows:

Current

€491.2 million.

Capital

€47.294 million.

Total

€539.494 million.

It should be noted that the 2002 figures reflect the situation following the transfer of certain functions and corresponding funding allocations to other Departments with effect from 18 June 2002 whereas the figures for 2001 include expenditure on these functions. In examining the above figures, it should be noted that the pattern of expenditure in 2002 was significantly different in comparison to 2001.

Richard Bruton

Question:

180 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the adjustments which he plans to introduce in the last quarter of 2002 in order to bring the overall spending for the year in line with the moneys provided in the Estimates. [18416/02]

Overall expenditure to date is somewhat ahead of profile, but at this point it is expected that this will even out as the year proceeds and that gross expenditure for 2002 as a whole will be in line with the provision in the Revised Estimates.
