223 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science if a higher diploma in adult and community education from NUI Maynooth is a recognised teacher training diploma; if it can qualify someone to get a full-time post in a com munity or comprehensive school as an adult education teacher for an outreach centre of such a school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The higher diploma in education is the only professional qualification that has been generally recognised by my Department for teaching appointments in community and comprehensive schools. General recognition has not been sought by the college authorities of the NUI, Maynooth, for its course leading to the higher diploma in adult and community education.
