Question:

236 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science if, in view of the fact that special needs assistants assist teachers in the supervision of pupils during assembly and recreation under contractual obligation, they will be paid for this work. [19238/02]

Special needs assistants are remunerated in accordance with their agreed terms and conditions of employment. Their duties include assisting teachers in the supervision of pupils during assembly, recreational and dispersal periods.
