Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

277 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if doctors can charge for the issuing of disability benefit certificates or letters in support of housing needs for medical card holders; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18882/02]

General practitioners participating in the GMS scheme are obliged to provide first and last certificates free of charge to medical card holders in respect of absences from work. The provision of other certificates may incur a charge.
