Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Board Services.

Mary Upton

Question:

316 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of managers and administrators employed in each health board area. [19336/02]

Regarding staff previously classified in the health service census as "management" and "administrative", in October 2001, following a request from my Department, the health boards carried out a comprehensive analysis of their primary roles and functions. The results of the exercise are set out in the table following. The Deputy may wish to note that 64% provide direct patient services as, for example, out-patient, accident and emergency admissions staff, consultant, clinician and nurse manager secretaries, medical records personnel and telephonists.
