Question:

336 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Transport the funds initially allocated by the European Commission for road building under the national development plan which have been reduced on the grounds that the Irish authorities' payments for land were found to be excessive; and the extent of this reduction. [19114/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 322, 323 and 336 together.

EU Structural and Cohesion Funds aid amounting to €702,494,080 has been allocated to the national roads development programme 2000-06 under the national development plan. This allocation has not been reduced. EU Structural and Cohesion Fund payment rules limit the amount which may be included in EU grant-aided expenditure in respect of land acquisition costs to 10% of the total grant-aided expenditure.
