Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

333 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Transport his proposals to shorten the waiting times for driving tests; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18999/02]

The average waiting time nationally for a driving test is currently ten weeks. This meets the target set by my Department. The target has been met or exceeded at 26 test centres. While some centres have longer waiting times, this is principally due to lost productivity arising from a two week refresher training programme undertaken by all driver testers this year. My Department continues to facilitate applicants that require an early test appointment.
