Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

Phil Hogan

Question:

393 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when finance will be available for new fire stations at Callan, Freshford and Castlecomer, County Kilkenny. [19169/02]

In August this year, as part of the 2002 fire services capital programme, I approved the council's proposal to accept a tender for the construction of a new fire station at Callan. My Department will be providing grants of more than €550,000 to the council in due course to meet the all in cost of the project.

Proposals from the council for approval to contract documents for a new fire station in Freshford and for approval in principle for a new station at Castlecomer are with my Department. These projects will be considered for inclusion in the 2003 fire services capital programme having regard to the level of funding available for the programme and the competing demands of other fire authorities for this funding.
