Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Strategic Management Initiative.

Richard Bruton

Question:

400 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the service indicators which he has requested local authorities to report on as part of the Strategic Management Initiative. [19371/02]

As part of the SMI a series of service indicators were developed by my Department, in partnership with a sub-group of local authority managers, with the aim of improving standards of service across local authorities. The service indicators cover aspects of housing, roads, motor taxation, environmental services, planning, revenue collection, corporate health and library services. In May 2000, my Department requested that local authorities set out their performance against these indicators in their annual reports, commencing with the 2000 annual reports. I have arranged for the list of the service indicators and a copy of the relevant circular to be sent to the Deputy.
